Tizzy Treatz- suppliers of sweets to the Sweet Shoppe

I had a very enjoyable meeting yesterday with Tania and Lizzie- the people behind Tizzy Treatz, a local business that sells home made fudge and over 40 different kinds of sweets. They are really keen to be part of The Mythical Beast Sweet Shoppe and had lots of great ideas on how we can combine their sweets with our project. In the future they hope to open up their very own bricks and motar sweet shoppe, but in the meantime they can be hired for parties, weddings, and any other reason you can think you might need a quarter of lemon bon bons for. They also do mail order!

Gorgons...

Is Medusa meant to be this friendly looking? I'm sure she wouldn't really turn anyone to stone would she? I LOVE the cute snakes popping out of her head- this Gorgon has been made by Chipfork's sister Katy as part of her contribution to The Mythical Beast Sweet Shoppe. Katy also makes Badly Made Bunnies.

Life cycle of the garden fairy

Are you working on something for the show? Can we have a sneaky peek? Can we? Can we? Can we? Send us a link if we can. Heres some of mine.
So are fairies mythical beasts? Camilla says mermaids are. But fairies aren't very beast like are they? Maybe in their caterpillar phase. Leave a comment. Yes or no?. Im wasting my time on this if there not.

Peryton. The winged deer of Atlantis

"Dear Mr Ashton Court
Lately the young deer from your deer park have taken to hanging round the phone box at the top of our road. They can be very intimidating to people who want to use the phone. Especially the ones in hooded tops. We don't hang around in your park harassing your deer do we? No. So sort it out.
Sincerely
S Hole"

I'm working on new stuff for the mythical beast sweet shoppe. But i cant decide if the winged deer of Atlantis should have hooded tops (like normal deer do). Or not. Please leave a comment. Should they or shouldn't they? The winged deer of Atlantis are reincarnated from the souls of the lost, sailors and so on. They only need to kill and eat human flesh once before they can live free of anguish and torment. So thats handy.

Submissions wanted

Dear Sweet Shoppers,

it's nearing the time that the Shoppe opens it's doors for the first time in the UK and we are hoping to round up some more people to contribute to the project.

We are looking for are artists/makers who are able to come up with work linked to Mythical Beasts, preferably Unicorns and Mermaids, but other beasties considered. We would like work to come in the form of multiples of at least six items (ie six prints/ zines/toys) so we are able to create a real shoppe feel to this show. One off's will be considered, especially if they are large scale pieces that are too good to miss out on.

The deadline for work to reach us is September 1st, with the Shoppe opening it's doors to coincide with the start of Weston Arts Festival on September 12th.

There is no fee to take part, however a small commission of 20% on work sold will be charged to cover publicity, venue rental, etc- if for some reason we magically get the venue for free then the commission charged will be even smaller.

The shop will be staffed by volunteers, and if anyone would like to add themselves to the list they would be very welcome- ridiculous shop keeper costumes will be made available to you.

If you would like more information, or want to submit work could you email or leave a comment

looking forward to hearing from you!

Camilla and Simon

Mythical Beast stamps from the Royal Mail

How did I not know about this until today? Dave McKean of comics fame has illustrated a set of Mythical Creatures for the Royal Mail. I was posting a letter today and had to buy a stamp and was overwhelmed to be handed one with a Unicorn on. You can buy postcards and presentation stamp sets from here.
